Pair Of Military Related Brass Candlesticks

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A fine and interesting pair of Victorian brass candlesticks with military interest. The pair are beautifully cast in the neoclassical, taste with swag and paterae moulding. The base of each stick is engraved with: Presented to Captain Maling on the occasion of his marriage by his brother officers of the Newcastle division 1st NTAV 1888’. The NTAV was the 1st Newcastle upon Tyne Artillery Volunteer Corps, a unit of the Volunteer Force raised to supplement the British Army at a time of a perceived French threat in 1860. I think the Captain Maling referred to in the inscription may have been part of the Maling Pottery family. The pair of candles sticks are in very good condition just the odd minor knock and wear etc.
