Bridge trumps markers became popular during the early 20th century card game boom, particularly with the standardisation of contract bridge in the 1920s. These cubic indicators were designed to sit on the card table to clearly display the designated trump suit or no trumps for each hand.

These desk and game accessories were typically crafted from solid sterling silver housings enclosing inset enamel or painted indicators, often utilising bone or celluloid panels for the suit markings. British pieces from this period frequently feature hand-stamped hallmarks denoting the maker, assay office, and year of production.

Authentification relies on inspecting the struck hallmarks for clear makers marks, the lion passant for sterling silver, the town mark such as the anchor for Birmingham, and the date letter corresponding to the assay year. The weight, hand-finished detailing, and age-appropriate wear on the silver and insets also help verify period manufacture.

These compact objects function well as curated display items on a bookshelf, coffee table, or within a gentlemans library cabinet alongside other small curiosities. Their metallic finish and geometric form complement both traditional study spaces and eclectic contemporary interiors.

Preservation requires storing the items in a stable environment away from direct sunlight and high humidity to protect any delicate inset panels or enamel work. Silver surfaces should be cleaned sparingly with a soft microfibre cloth and professional silver polish only when necessary, avoiding abrasive materials that could wear down hallmarks.
