Landscape Oil Painting by Frank Hughes

A charming oil on board landscape oil by Frank Edward Burnham Hughes 1905-1987. A mid-century oil landscape of a farm in Autumn, once the leaves have fallen from the trees. The technique is very interesting and uses the colour of the board to give the earth tones of the landscape. The work is ascribed to the artist on the reverse and dated C.1935. Frank Hughes was born at St Pancras, London and studied at St Martin's School of Art. He was influential in the London art scene of the time and exhibited at The Royal Academy through the fifties, he was also a full member of The New English Art Club. A fine example of mid-century landscape painting mounted in a modern frame.
