Tekke rugs are traditional hand-knotted wool carpets produced by the Tekke tribe of Turkmen nomads in Central Asia, historically recognised for their fine knotting and repeating guls.

These rugs are typically constructed with hand-spun wool foundations and piles, utilising natural organic dyes such as madder root to achieve the signature terracotta and red ground colours.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the weave density, natural wool variations, asymmetric knots, organic colour abrash, and traditional motifs such as the octagonal gul pattern.

An antique tribal rug functions effectively as a grounding element on wooden floors, pairing well with neutral upholstery or acting as a focal point in a study or living space.

Preservation involves regular gentle vacuuming without a beater bar, professional specialised cleaning when necessary, and keeping the textile out of direct sunlight to prevent dye fading.
