Antique Central Asian Turkmen Rug, Possibly Karakalpak, Circa 1890.

Antique Central Asian Turkmen rug, possibly by the Karakalpak of Uzbekistan.
 
Circa 1890.
 
This interesting rug has an all over diamond lattice design which is flanked by very narrow borders containing Turkmen design elements. Note the rams horn design in the panel at the lower end and the amulet design in the centre of some of the diamonds.
 
The Karakalpak are a small group of Turkic speaking tribes found in the region of western Uzbekistan.
 
The rug is in good condition with even wear with medium pile. There are a number of old repairs to the field.
 
The carpet is suitable for normal domestic use.
