We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

Traditional mahogany bookcases typically feature rich wood grains, classical proportions, and often incorporate glazed doors with wooden glazing bars, reflecting periods such as the Georgian, Regency, or Victorian eras.

Authentic period bookcases are generally constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary hardwoods like pine or oak, utilising traditional joinery such as dovetails and mortise and tenon joints.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut joinery, period-appropriate glass with natural imperfections, traditional hand-finished patina, and structural construction methods consistent with historical manufacturing eras.

In a contemporary setting, a dark wood bookcase adds architectural depth and contrast, serving as a sophisticated storage solution for books and curated decorative objects within a living room or study.

Preservation involves keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping or fading, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the finish.
