Size: 5ft 11in x 3ft 2in (180 x 96cm).

Antique Khorasan Baluch rug with a variant of the mina khani design.

Circa 1880.

This is a good Baluch rug, with a well known but scarce variant of the mina khani design, large flower heads linked by serrated leaves. The design stands out well against the midnight indigo blue ground. Note the small white flowers that appear through out the design along with many other small tribal design elements. The main border is a well drawn version of the meandering vine design. Note the original kilim end finishes with chevron design at both ends. This is an excellent collectible early Baluch rug.

The rug is in good condition with even wear and medium pile. There is slight wear to the side bindings and ends. The rug has a very soft and floppy handle.

The rug is suitable for light domestic use.

A Khorasan Baluch rug is a hand-knotted textile woven by Baluch tribal groups in the Khorasan province of north-eastern Persia. These rugs are recognized for their dark, saturated colour palettes, wool construction, and geometric adaptations of traditional Persian motifs.
