This is a beautiful antique Bidjar bag face, that has been carefully sewn onto a hessian wrapped wooden frame, which can be hung on a wall. Woven by the nomadic weavers in Bidjar, Persia, these tribal bags would have originally been used as storage bags, and would have had a kilim backing which usually gets worn away from this wool piled front of the bag. It is rare to find these tribal bag faces from Bidjar, as they generally produced rugs, carpets and runners, they did also produce wagireh which is the term for a sampler. So they did weave smaller pieces, but unusual to find bag faces in good condition from the late 19th century.
Over 130 years old the dyes on these bags are still vibrant, being all natural dyes. As the bag face has been carefully sewn onto the frame it can be remove
...d at any point too.
