FAQs

Brass and iron beds gained immense popularity during the Victorian era due to advancements in industrial manufacturing, which allowed for the mass production of durable metal furniture that was considered more hygienic than traditional wood.

These beds typically combine a heavy cast iron structural frame with brass components, such as tubing, spinnings, and decorative finials, often joined using dovetail joints or heavy bolts and wedges.

Authentic pieces usually feature hand-poured iron castings, genuine brass components that show natural ageing rather than modern plating, and makers marks or stamps often found near the joints or footboard.

Pairing the metallic frame with crisp neutral linens, textured throws, and contemporary minimalist bedside tables creates a balanced aesthetic that highlights the historical character without overwhelming the room.

Maintain the frame by dusting regularly with a dry cloth; avoid harsh chemical cleaners on the brass to preserve the natural patina, and occasionally check and tighten the structural bolts to ensure stability.
