Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Iron and brass bedsteads gained widespread popularity during the nineteenth century due to advancements in industrial casting techniques and heightened hygiene awareness. These sturdy metal frames offered a durable, vermin-resistant, and sanitary alternative to traditional wooden beds.

These bedsteads typically feature a wrought or cast iron structural frame, joined with cast iron corner joints or dovetail fittings, complemented by solid brass top rails, brass caps, and decorative finials.

Authentic period pieces feature heavy hand-poured cast iron corner lugs, original brass fittings showing natural oxidisation, and substantial structural weight rather than modern hollow steel tubing.

Pair the metal frame with natural linen bedding, woven quilts, and soft neutral wall tones to balance the metal structure and create a relaxed country or traditional scheme.

Dust painted iron components regularly with a soft, dry cloth to prevent moisture build-up, and polish unlacquered brass fittings with a specialized metal cleaner to preserve their lustre.
