This Georgian Scottish provincial silver decanter label dates from around 1810 and originates from Peterhead. The silver piece has a polished metallic finish and a rectangular form featuring canted corners, a reeded border, and an engraved inscription reading W*WINE across the front. Attached to the top corners by small jump rings is a matching silver link suspension chain. Surface signs of age include light handling marks and gentle patina across the smooth metallic body. Measuring 1 cm high, 2 cm wide, and 5 cm deep, this small vintage item serves as a decorative identifier for glassware or decanters. In a contemporary home, it functions well placed on a sideboard top or home bar setup to accent traditional drinkware collections.

Introduced in the mid-18th century as clear glass decanters gained popularity, wine labelsalso referred to as bottle ticketswere created to identify spirits and wines kept in unlabelled glass vessels.

Georgian examples were predominantly crafted from solid sterling silver, featuring hand-engraved text, reeded or stamped borders, and delicate link suspension chains to drape over decanter necks.

Authentic Scottish provincial silver pieces bear specific makers marks and regional town punches rather than standard city assay marks from Edinburgh or Glasgow, along with era-appropriate hand engraving.

A silver decanter label may be displayed draped over a glass decanter on a sideboard top or bar cart, or presented within a shallow glass display cabinet alongside vintage glassware.

Maintain silver surfaces by wiping gently with a soft microfibre cloth and applying a specialised non-abrasive silver polish, ensuring the fine suspension chain is handled without excess tension.
