Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pirot Sarkoy kilims originate from the Pirot region along the border between Serbia and Bulgaria, an area famed for flatweave textile production under Ottoman influence. These hand-woven carpets are renowned for their complex geometric compositions, rich natural dyes, and historical iconography used across Eastern Europe and the broader Balkans.

Traditional Pirot kilims are hand-woven using pure, hand-spun wool for both the warp and the weft. Craftsmen employ a slit-weave tapestry technique, creating clean visual divisions between colour blocks and producing a reversible textile with uniform density.

Authentic pieces from circa 1920 display characteristic slit-weave openings along vertical colour joins, finely spun wool yarn, and subtle abrash dye variations. Geometric diamond medallions, stylized bird or flora motifs, and multi-tiered patterned borders are key visual indicators of regional provenance.

A large-scale kilim acts as an anchoring focal point in modern living rooms, dining rooms, or bedrooms. The earthy terracotta tones and geometric structuring add warm visual texture to minimalist neutral schemes or complement mid-century and traditional furnishings.

To preserve flatweave wool kilims, vacuum regularly using a suction-only attachment without a rotary brush bar. Place a quality non-slip rug pad underneath to prevent friction wear, rotate the textile periodically to equalize light exposure, and rely on professional rug specialists for deep cleaning.
