Antique Caucasian Dragon Sumak, originating from the kuba region. It features the iconic “Dragon design”, where ancient mythic symbols have evolved into bold, serrated geometric forms surrounding large hexagonal medallions. What distinguishes this piece is its large Roomsize stature 315cm x 270cm and being dated with the year 1316-
1898 appearing both in formal central cartouches & in the field which is unusual. The weave itself is fine, not shaggy underneath as of many Sumaks, it displays a disciplined tidy back. With its rich palette, abrash and honest age-related character, this dated piece represents a significant historical record of late-19th-century Caucasian tribal art.
