Our selection of antique bankers' lamps always draws admiration from visitors to our showroom in Dorking, and this 1930s example, with its stylish slipper-shaped base, is no exception. The original finish, much of which is still visible, was deeply patinated in some areas to accentuate its lustrous copper body. This attractive decorative finish has been enhanced further by constant use over the last 90 years, especially in the well of its slippered base. Apart from the shade, which is a fairly recent replacement, this bankers' lamp is a nice original example, even the pull cord is still operational. It is in full working order and has been re-wired with a sympathetic cloth-covered cord and safety tested. The measurement indicating its height was taken whilst the lamp was at a normal working position. The depth is the depth of the base and the width is the width of the copper armature that holds the shade in place.
