Description

This timelessly fashionable pair of late Victorian single beds features a contemporary feeling geometric or leaf design (we couldn’t decide which was more accurate!) in the head end with a lovely arching shape. These beds have a surprisingly contemporary feel given they are over 100 years old, a testament to their enduring style.

Hand painted in Little Greene’s Olive colour, with highlights and lowlights of Little Greene’s Obsidian green and Sage green, waxed to preserve and give a soft sheen.

Professionally restored to be incredibly sturdy, the frame has been shot blasted and primed. The side rails have been strengthened and adapted to support wood slats or a bed base.

Suitable for a modern single mattress 90cm x 190cm.

Head height 124.5cm

Foot height 34cm

Side rail height 34cm

Overall width 91cm

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Metal beds gained popularity during the Victorian era as a hygienic and durable alternative to wooden frames, largely due to advancements in industrial manufacturing and iron casting.

These beds typically utilise tubular iron or cast iron frames, often joined with metal brackets and secured with tapered joints or bolts for structural stability.

Authenticity is indicated by heavy gauge metal construction, hand-poured casting details, original painted finishes with natural oxidisation, and traditional makers marks or registration numbers.

Pairing the metal frame with crisp neutral linens, textured throws, and contemporary lighting creates a balanced contrast between historical industrial design and modern comfort.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that can damage the original painted or lacquered surfaces.
