Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian iron bedsteads are characterised by tubular or solid metal frames constructed using cast-iron joinery and wrought-iron decorative elements. Popularised during the mid-to-late nineteenth century for their hygienic properties and durability, they often feature ornamental scrollwork, geometric loops, and polished brass finials.

These bed frames were constructed using a combination of wrought iron for decorative bentwork and cast iron for heavy structural joints and rails. Accents such as brass finials, caps, and collar rosettes were routinely added to enhance the visual appeal of the frame.

Authentic period bedsteads feature heavy poured-iron dovetail joints where the side rails slot into the headboard and footboard posts. Original pieces also show hand-formed scrollwork, foundry maker marks stamped into the iron cast corner joints, and aged brass elements showing natural oxidisation.

An iron bedstead acts as an open, light-permeable focal point in a bedroom, pairing well with layered textiles, linen bedding, and contrasting timber side tables. The dark silhouette contrasts effectively against both neutral lime-washed walls and deep, bold paint schemes.

Maintain the ironwork by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a light coat of clear furniture wax to protect against corrosion. Brass finials should be cleaned gently with specialist metal polish to prevent tarnish while preserving natural patina.
