Dealers Notes

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Queen Anne bureau bookcase is an early 18th-century writing cabinet featuring a slant-front writing desk topped with a vertical cabinet unit, frequently fitted with a mirrored or panelled door.

These pieces were predominantly constructed using figured walnut veneers, crossbanded borders, pine or oak carcase timbers, mercury glass mirrors, and cast brass handles.

Authentic Queen Anne pieces typically display hand-cut dovetail joints, thick walnut veneers, drawer linings with timber grain running front-to-back, period brass tear-drop or engraved handles, and turned bun feet.

Position the bureau against a neutral wall in a study, hallway, or drawing room to serve as a functional workstation and architectural focal point alongside contemporary upholstery.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent wood movement or veneer splitting, dusting regularly with a dry cloth and applying clear beeswax along the grain annually.
