FAQs

Victorian silver items frequently display ornate, nature-inspired motifs such as floral repousse work, heavy scrollwork, and detailed embossing, reflecting the periods fascination with decorative arts.

These pieces were typically crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as spinning, casting, and hand-chasing or repousse to create dimensional surface ornamentation.

Authenticity is verified by examining hallmarks stamped on the metal, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark for sterling silver, a town assay office mark, and a date letter corresponding to the period.

An antique silver vessel can be used as a striking metallic accent on a mantelpiece or bookshelf, or filled with a single stem to create a focal point that contrasts with modern minimalist lines.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a specialized non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to maintain the patina, avoiding harsh dips that can strip away original depth and detail.
