FAQs

Victorian novelty scent bottles emerged during the 19th century as whimsical, highly portable accessories designed to hold smelling salts or perfume, often shaped as everyday objects or animals to reflect the eras fascination with clever design.

These items typically combined blown coloured glasssuch as rich cranberry or ruby glasswith hallmarked sterling silver caps, hinged mounts, and sometimes gold wash interiors known as vermeil.

Authentic pieces generally feature period hallmarks on the silver components, hand-blown glass characteristics with minor surface imperfections, and secure, well-fitted screw or hinged caps rather than modern machine-threaded closures.

Displaying small collectables on a mirrored tray, within a glass-fronted cabinet, or alongside curated vintage books adds a touch of historical texture and refined detail to contemporary spaces.

Silver components should be cleaned gently using a non-abrasive microfibre cloth and specialized silver polish, taking care to avoid getting moisture or polish onto the antique glass body.
