Description

Very smart Louis XVI style walnut and brass mounted bookcase c.1930. Two door bookcase with open brass grills over blind panels, fitted inside with four adjustable shelves (depth 11"). Shallow cornice with an applied brass rope twist moulding. Over a splendid copper plated brass plaque cast with a superb design of Classical cherubs and putti busy with various activities, many with a naval or navigational theme. Acanthus mounts to the corners and doors, flower head roundels to the corners of the lower panels. Reeded front stiles with an applied brass detail of crossed ribbons. Moulded plinth to echo the shape of the cornice, with a large brass leaf spray and ribbon mount at the centre. Turned front feet also brass mounted. Walnut side panels and oak back. Minor wear to the finish on the lower door panels. Otherwise very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied.
