FAQs

A thabiek is a traditional Burmese alms bowl historically used by Buddhist monks for collecting food offerings, later adapted as decorative export silverware during the colonial period.

These pieces are typically crafted from high-grade silver, often between 800 and 900 purity, utilising traditional repousse and chasing techniques to create deep, three-dimensional sculptural reliefs.

Authentic pieces generally feature intricate narrative scenes from Buddhist mythology or folklore, executed in high relief with hand-punched backgrounds, and rarely bear Western-style hallmarks.

They can be displayed on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or coffee table as sculptural statement objects, contrasting effectively with minimalist modern surfaces.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a soft microfiber cloth and specialised silver cleaner, avoiding abrasive dips that can damage the delicate oxidisation and hand-chased details.
