Andrew Cox Antiques has dated this piece to the Regency era.
The craftmanship is evident in both pieces. The tray is hourglass in shape, with a raised and fully cast gadrooned border. There are cast shell thumb grips to both ends and a handsome armorial to the centre of a Stag, with the motto 'Jouir En Bien' - 'To Enjoy Innocently'.
The armorial and motto also feature to the wick trimmers, which are in excellent condition with a strong sprung central hinge. The body mirrors the design of the tray with gadrooned borders, shell motifs to the handles and to the top of the snuffer. The tip is pointed to aid with removing wax and they stand on three raised cast legs.
A fantastic example of Georgian silverware, with the tray having the great advantage of being hallmarked at the scarce York Assay Office and the trimmers by the sought after Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard I. A splendid addition to any collection, that is as usable today as it was over 200 years ago. Dimensions below.
