Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco desk lamps manufactured between the 1920s and 1940s are characterised by clean geometric lines, streamlined metalwork, and functional adjustability. They often feature stepped bases, curved shades, and exposed mechanical joints that reflect the industrial aesthetic of the machine age.

Task lamps from this period were predominantly constructed from solid cast or sheet brass, often weighted with iron inside the base for stability. Electric components included cotton-braided flex cord, porcelain or metal bulb holders, and brass pull-chain switches.

Authentic early twentieth-century lamps typically feature cast construction marks, age-consistent surface oxidisation, original screw thread sizes, and solid brass components rather than brass-plated steel. Natural wear and minor tarnishing on contact points also indicate genuine age.

A brass desk lamp serves as a functional statement piece on a dark wood executive desk, a side table, or within a bookshelf arrangement. The warm metallic tones complement both traditional dark wall palettes and modern minimalist study setups.

To preserve the historical patina, avoid abrasive chemical cleaners or harsh metal polishes. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, and apply a thin layer of microcrystalline wax if protection against further oxidisation is required.
