Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An early 18th-century walnut bureau typically features a sloping fall-front lid that opens to reveal a fitted writing interior, positioned above a chest of drawers. Popularised during the William & Mary and Queen Anne periods, these pieces combined functional desk space with compact domestic storage.

Craftsmen primarily used figure-grained walnut veneers laid over oak or pine carcasses, often bordered with feather or herringbone crossbanding. Drawer construction featured hand-cut dovetail joints and original brass drop handles with backplates.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, thick section veneers, hand-cut dovetails on drawer linings, and historical wear around keyholes and feet. Original brass hardware shows subtle hand-casting variations and natural oxidisation.

Position the bureau in a dedicated study, hallway, or living area to serve as a functional writing desk or compact storage unit. Its rich timber tones complement neutral paint palettes and contrast well with contemporary brass lighting and modern seating.

Keep the bureau away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent veneers from lifting or drying out. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish twice yearly along the wood grain and wipe brass fittings with a soft dry cloth.
