Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The French Empire style developed during Napoleon Bonapartes reign, drawing heavily from classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian architecture. Characterised by symmetrical forms, rich mahogany veneers, and gilded bronze (ormolu) mounts depicting classical motifs such as lyres, wreaths, and caryatids, the style reflects grand neoclassicism.

These dressing tables were predominantly constructed using solid timber frames faced with flame mahogany veneers. Decorative accents relied on chased cast bronze mounts finished with fire-gilding (ormolu), alongside clear mirror glass, marble tops, or integrated wooden secondary drawers.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints, heavy solid bronze mounts with fine hand-chasing, and original secondary timbers like pine or oak. Late nineteenth-century revival pieces often feature thinner brass stamped mounts, machine-cut joinery, and lighter timber construction.

A neoclassical dressing table serves as an architectural anchor in a principal bedroom or dressing room. Pair it with neutral wall palettes, contemporary linen drapery, and understated lighting to allow the rich mahogany tones and detailed bronze work to remain the focal point.

Clean mahogany surfaces using a soft microfibre cloth and nourish the wood periodically with high-quality beeswax. Ormolu mounts should be gently dusted with a dry, soft-bristled brush; avoid liquid metal polishes or chemical cleaners, as these can strip original gilding and historic patina.
