Cranberry glass, characterised by its distinctive pinkish-red hue achieved through the addition of gold chloride to the molten glass, gained immense popularity in Britain during the Victorian and Edwardian eras for decorative tableware and accessories.

These items typically combine hand-blown or mould-blown glass bodies with hallmarked sterling silver mounts, collars, and pierced screw-on lids, often manufactured by specialist silversmiths.

Authenticity is verified by examining the silver components for clear British hallmarks indicating the assay office, date letter, and makers mark, alongside assessing the weight, hand-finished qualities, and natural wear patterns of the glass.

Such decorative objects can be displayed on sideboards, open shelving, or dining tables to introduce rich colour accents, tactile textures, and historical contrast into contemporary living spaces.

The glass body should be washed gently in warm soapy water using a soft cloth, while the silver mount requires careful cleaning with a specialised silver polish, avoiding abrasive materials that could damage the hallmarks or glass surface.
