This beautiful glazed walnut bookcase will look elegant in any home, whether one with a traditional interior or a more modern decor. It has five fully adjustable shelves which sit on saw tooth rests, with eyelets inside the glazed part of the doors allowing a fabric lining to be attached, if required, to protect the books from sunlight. It has elegant ormolu decoration, with winged women of classical form decorating the bottom panels of the doors, these probably representing the goddesses Pheme with the trumpet and Nike with the wreath. There are delicate mounts on the cornice and some lovely reeding on the door overlap . The colour and patina are gorgeous and it has a fine, smooth polished finish.
Dating to circa 1860, this is made of walnut and originates from France.
In good age related condition this has few flaws, although there is a slight gap in the joint at the top left corner of the cornice. The key is available.
