Antique Ersari Turkmen torba with kochak design.
Circa 1880.
Torba are shallow wall bags used mainly in tents or yurts for the storage of personal belongings, they were also used to decorate the sides of a camel in a wedding procession. Often only the piled face survives and the plain weave backs have been removed.
This example has a repeat design known as ''kochak'', this design is also found on weavings by the Tekke Turkmen.
The torba is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile.
Hand washed and ready for display.
