The Arts and Crafts movement emerged in the late 19th century as a reaction against mass production, championing handcraftsmanship, traditional techniques, and natural motifs inspired by the British countryside and medieval design.

Artisans typically used sheet copper, brass, or bronze, employing techniques such as repousse (hammering from the reverse to create raised relief) and chasing (refining details from the front) mounted on a wooden backing.

Authentic pieces often display visible hammer marks, natural patination, organic botanical or Celtic motifs, and occasionally maker marks or guild stamps on the reverse side.

Mount the panel against a neutral or rich dark wall colour to highlight the metallic texture, pairing it with natural wood elements and minimalist decor to create a balanced focal point.

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid using harsh chemical polishes or abrasive cleaners, which can strip the historic oxidisation and patina.
