We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

This large nineteenth-century French Louis XV style freestanding bureau plat desk is produced in warm brown kingwood with parquetry inlay and an inset black leather writing surface. The piece stands 76 cm high, 166 cm wide and 84 cm deep. Ornate gilded ormolu mounts dress the corners and drawers, while the structure rests on elegant cabriole legs terminating in claw feet. Five oak-lined drawers occupy one side, accompanied by matching dummy drawers on the reverse. Practical for home placement as a writing desk in a study, library or a home office, the desk provides a functional workspace combined with traditional French chateau style decoration. The wooden surface displays intricate geometric parquetry patterns alongside classical scrolling bronze handles and mounts, creating a formal furniture piece suited to daily administrative tasks.

A bureau plat is a flat-topped writing desk originating in 18th-century France, characterised by curved cabriole legs, ornate metal mounts, and an inset leather writing surface.

These desks traditionally feature fine timber veneers such as kingwood, rosewood, or walnut, decorative parquetry or marquetry, cast ormolu mounts, and a leather top.

Authentic revival pieces demonstrate hand-carved dovetail joints, cast bronze ormolu mounts with historical patina, and age-appropriate wear to the timber finish and leather.

Position the bureau plat as a central statement piece in a study or home office, pairing it with contemporary seating or clean-lined artwork to create a refined contrast.

Keep the desk in a temperature-controlled environment away from direct heat to protect the veneer, dust bronze mounts gently with a soft brush, and apply high-grade beeswax to the timber.
