Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Oushak carpets originate from the town of Usak in western Turkey, a major centre for rug production since the Ottoman Empire. These textiles are historically celebrated for their distinctive muted colour palettes, luminous wool, and large-scale geometric or floral motifs.

Authentic Oushak runners are traditionally hand-knotted using hand-spun sheeps wool for both the pile and the foundation, occasionally incorporating cotton. Natural dyes derived from plants, roots, and insects are utilised to achieve their characteristic earthy and soft tones.

Identification involves examining the irregularity of the hand-knotting, the patina of the vegetable-dyed wool, and the construction of the selvages and fringes. Authentic older pieces exhibit organic colour variations known as abrash and wear consistent with age.

An antique runner brings warmth, texture, and historical contrast to modern spaces. It is typically deployed in transitional zones such as hallways, kitchens, or entryways to anchor neutral architectural elements and complement minimalist furniture.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without a rotating beater brush, professional specialist cleaning, and the use of a breathable underlay to prevent slippage and friction wear. Protection from prolonged direct sunlight prevents the fading of natural dyes.
