Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Victorian fireplace designs evolved significantly during the 19th century, transitioning from grand classical marble surrounds with heavy proportions to more streamlined arched inserts during the late Victorian period.

They were typically constructed using natural quarried marbles such as Carrara, paired with heavy black cast iron for the interior fire inserts and grates.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-carved stone details, maker stamps on the cast iron components, weight appropriate for solid stone, and signs of period wear or historical soot staining.

It serves as a striking focal point in contemporary living spaces, often contrasted against neutral walls or paired with minimalist furnishings to highlight its historical craftsmanship.

Marble should be cleaned with a pH-neutral stone soap and warm water, avoiding acidic substances, whilst cast iron can be maintained using specialised grate polish or light oil to prevent rust.
