Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian partners desk is made from Cuban mahogany with a warm brown finish and oak drawer linings. The Victorian piece takes a twin pedestal form with flamed mahogany fielded panels on the pedestal sides both inside and out, frieze drawers fitted with brass swan-neck loop handles, and O G bracket feet raised on casters. The timber shows a rich grain pattern across the large surface area, complemented by polished metal hardware and structured mouldings around the base and drawers. Measuring 78.8 cm high, 152 cm wide, and 99 cm deep, the desk offers a substantial workspace. Positioned in a traditional gentleman's library or a home study, the large surface area and double-sided configuration provide practical space for daily administrative work, writing, or computer use while allowing access from both sides. The kneehole opening accommodates a comfortable seating position, and the pedestals offer generous storage capacity within the drawers and lower compartments. The neutral background and classic proportions suit formal period interiors as well as executive home offices.

FAQs

Originally designed in the nineteenth century, a partners desk is a substantial double-sided desk created to allow two people to work facing each other, equipped with drawers or cupboards on both sides.

These desks were commonly crafted from solid mahogany or oak, often incorporating flame mahogany veneers, hand-cast brass handles, and leather inset writing surfaces.

Authentic period examples feature functional drawers or cupboards on both opposing sides, hand-cut dovetail joints, period-appropriate brass ironmongery, and age-consistent wear across the timber.

Positioned centrally within a dedicated study or home office, a partners desk creates a structured focal point that balances well alongside neutral plaster walls and contemporary leather seating.

To preserve the timber finish, keep the desk away from direct heat sources, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply a natural beeswax polish along the wood grain twice yearly.
