This nineteenth-century Victorian military campaign pedestal desk takes the form of a rectangular writing table supported by two three-drawer pedestals. The piece stands 78.5 cm high, 127 cm wide, and 78.5 cm deep. The construction utilises fine figured camphor wood and Macassar ebony, showcasing a warm brown timber colour with contrasting dark ebonised mouldings around the drawers and plinth bases. The top surface incorporates an inset green tooled leather writing panel bordered by a moulded edge. Flush sunken brass military handles are fitted to each drawer front across the top section and pedestals. Designed for a gentleman's library or study, this desk provides functional workspace and generous storage within its graduated drawers. The tripartite construction allows the piece to separate into three individual sections for transport. Working locks with keys secure the drawers, while plinth bases support the structure at ground level. The warm timber tones and crisp brass hardware suit traditional interiors and home offices focused on classic British furniture styles.

A campaign desk is a piece of portable furniture designed to be easily dismantled, transported, and reassembled for military officers during travel or field operations.

These desks were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or teak, fitted with flush brass handles, corner brackets, and leather writing surfaces to endure frequent transit.

Authentic examples feature recessed flush brass hardware designed not to catch during movement, sectioned modular construction that separates into two or three parts, and sturdy mortise and tenon joinery.

Position the desk as a central focal point in a home office or study, pairing it with contemporary seating or tailored brass lighting to balance the historical woodwork.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources, apply high-grade beeswax periodically along the wood grain, and dust the brass fittings with a soft, dry cloth to protect the original finish.
