1930s Cyma Full Hunter Pocket Watch

1920 - 1940
Description

1930s Cyma full hunter pocket watch.

The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement, identified as by Cyma, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover, this inner cover has a couple of scratches.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is the gold plated Star model from the Dennison Watch Case Company, an English case manufacturer and supplier to various watch makers. The front of the case is in good condition, the back has a few “pin prick” indentations towards the edge, not too serious.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside, there is a glass lens which is in lovely condition.

The dial is in super condition with original blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute track.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Date of Manufacture

The Vintage Wrist Watch Company has dated this Cyma Full Hunter Pocket Watch to the 1930s.

Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1930s:
Dennison Star case stamp: Birmingham gold-filled production from the interwar period.
Swiss lever movement with ref numbering: standard mechanical calibre of the 1930s.
White dial with Arabic numerals: styling favoured in early twentieth-century pocket watches.
Blued steel handset: heat-treated finish retaining its deep colour.
Light pocket scratches on the outer covers: normal handling over decades.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (because of GPSR legislation, we no longer post items less than 100 years old to Europe, including Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A full hunter pocket watch features a outer protective metal cover that encloses the glass crystal and dial entirely. The cover opens via a spring mechanism triggered by pressing the stem button, designed historically to protect the glass during outdoor activities.

During the 1930s, watchmakers commonly used gold plating, rolled gold, yellow gold, nickel, and sterling silver for cases, paired with vitreous enamel or metal dials and glass crystals.

Authentic 1930s pocket watches feature manual-wind mechanical movements stamped with maker marks, calibre numbers, or serial numbers inside the case back. Dial typography from this period often uses clean Art Deco-influenced numerals and sub-seconds dials at six oclock.

A vintage pocket watch can be worn traditionally in a waistcoat pocket attached to a Albert chain, carried in the watch pocket of modern denim, or displayed on a desk stand as a decorative mechanical object.

Keep mechanical timepieces away from high humidity, extreme temperatures, and magnetic fields. Have the movement professionally cleaned and lubricated by a horologist every three to five years to ensure proper operation.
