Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1900s:
Abrash colour striations across the indigo ground: natural batch-dyed yarns.
Stepped geometric medallions and vase motifs: traditional South Persian tribal design.
Slight variations in loom width: hand-weaving on a nomadic loom.
Even mellowing of the natural dyes: decades of exposure to light.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Afshar rugs are handwoven by nomadic and semi-nomadic Afshar weavers in south-eastern Persia, primarily within the Kerman Province. They are recognised by their geometric medallions, stylised botanical motifs, and rich palette of indigo blues and madder reds.

These rugs are typically hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile woven onto a wool or cotton foundation. Natural plant and mineral dyes are historically employed to yield deep indigo, terracotta, and ivory tones.

Authentic pieces feature hand-knotted constructions with slight structural variations characteristic of tribal village looms. The underside displays distinct knot patterns, while the pile exhibits natural dye variations known as abrash alongside geometric medallion designs.

A patterned tribal carpet anchors living rooms or dining spaces by providing colour contrast beneath neutral furniture. It complements dark wood tables, leather armchairs, or minimalist contemporary seating.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting to avoid catching the fibres. Promptly blot liquid spills with a dry cloth, place an underlay pad beneath the carpet to reduce wear, and seek specialist cleaning services for deep maintenance.
