These fine Chinese armorial plates were produced for the European export market during the Qianlong period and are particularly appealing examples of English family armorial porcelain commissioned from China in the late Georgian era.

Each plate is beautifully decorated to the centre with an impressive Redman family coat of arms, finely painted in red, gold and white enamel. The heraldic decoration is surrounded by an elaborate border of interlocking gilt chain links, framed by deep blue enamel detailing to both the inner and outer edges.

The outer rim of each plate is further embellished with fine red and gilt lines against a rich blue enamel ground, creating an elegant and well-balanced decorative scheme. Of particular note is the beautifully executed heraldic horse's head, which is especially well painted on both plates and demonstrates the quality of the enamel decoration.

A highly decorative and increasingly sought-after form of 18th-century Chinese export porcelain, armorial plates such as these were specially commissioned for European families and provide an interesting connection between Chinese porcelain production and British family heraldry.
