London City Antiques has dated this Victorian Inlaid Writing Desk to the 19th Century.
This elegant freestanding desk combines superior Victorian craftsmanship with remarkable versatility, making it equally suitable as a ladies' writing desk, dressing table or bedroom vanity.

The beautifully designed upper section features two raised compartments with shaped hinged lids opening to reveal useful stationery and storage space. Beneath are decorative inlaid drawer fronts, one incorporating a functioning drawer, all retaining their original ornate brass handles. The compartments are enhanced by magnificent pierced brass galleries and joined by a decorative central panel with exquisite floral inlay.

The generously proportioned top retains its original green leather writing surface with decorative gilt-tooled borders, beautifully complementing the rich colour of the timber. Below are seven drawers, each decorated with fine satinwood stringing and retaining its original engraved brass handle. The central drawer features particularly attractive floral and ribbon inlay.

The desk stands on eight elegant square tapering legs with delicate satinwood inlay, terminating in original brass cup castors. The quality of the construction, beautifully finished sides and graceful proportions make this a particularly impressive example of fine Victorian cabinetmaking.

Maple & Co. were among Britain's most prestigious furniture manufacturers, renowned for exceptional craftsmanship, elegant design and superior quality. This splendid example beautifully demonstrates the firm's attention to detail and decorative excellence.

Although originally designed as a writing desk, its elegant proportions and numerous storage compartments make it a wonderful alternative to a traditional antique dressing table or American vanity table. Perfect for a luxurious bedroom, dressing room, study or contemporary interior, where its magnificent inlay and rich colour would create a striking focal point.
