This Victorian bedstead originates from around 1890 and follows a traditional English country house design. The structure combines brass, iron, and painted wood, presenting a cream and brass colour scheme with a distinctive stippled finish across the uprights and vertical spindles. Decorative elements comprise spherical brass ball finials, turned spindlework, prominent brass top rails, moulded joints, and cast corner connections showing visible signs of age and patina. Measuring 159 cm high, 137 cm wide, and 200 cm deep, the frame accommodates a standard double mattress. In a modern residence, this piece functions as a focal point in a main bedroom or guest suite, providing a classic sleeping platform while coordinating with period or transitional interior schemes.

Victorian bedsteads are metal or wooden bed frames produced during the reign of Queen Victoria, typically featuring cast iron frameworks, brass top rails, turned spindles, and decorative finials.

These bedsteads were predominantly constructed using cast iron for structural support, hollow brass tubing, turned timber or iron spindles, and cast iron corner brackets.

Authentic pieces feature cast iron corner joints that slot together without modern bolts, hand-turned brass elements, original castors, and occasionally stamped registration marks or foundry labels on the frame.

Style the frame with crisp white cotton linens, layered wool blankets, and muted neutral wall tones to complement the metallic brass accents and structured silhouette.

Clean brass components with a soft, dry lint-free cloth to avoid removing historical patina or protective lacquers, and inspect iron joint fixings regularly to prevent rust accumulation.
