Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian iron and brass bedsteads became popular during the mid-to-late nineteenth century as industrial manufacturing techniques expanded. Designed to replace traditional timber frames due to hygiene concerns, metal beds offered enhanced durability and ease of cleaning in Victorian households.

These bedsteads are constructed primarily from tubular wrought iron and cast iron components, often featuring brass top rails, brass decorative spindles, and solid brass finials. Castings at the frame joints are formed using molten iron poured into chilled moulds.

Authentic pieces feature heavy cast iron corner joints, often referred to as dovetail or chill cast joints, which slot together without modern bolts. They also exhibit solid brass fittings, heavy tubing wall thickness, and original iron castors on the base of the legs.

Pair the painted metal frame with neutral linen bedding and textured throws to soften the metalwork. It works effectively against contemporary muted wall palettes or traditional patterned wallpapers, bringing structured period detail to a bedroom scheme.

Dust the frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical sprays on painted surfaces. Brass components can be gently buffed with a specialized metal cleaner to remove oxidisation and restore lustre.
