Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian gentleman's library desk is constructed from warm brown mahogany with satinwood string inlay. The rectangular top incorporates a red leatherette writing surface within a moulded border, while the frieze and pedestals contain nine functional drawers fitted with small round brass knob handles, keyhole escutcheons, and working locks. The piece is supported on eight square tapering legs finished with brass castors and porcelain wheels, presenting an arched kneehole space below the central drawer. Measuring 74 cm high by 114 cm wide by 60 cm deep, the desk functions as a practical workspace for a home study, home office, or living room. It provides generous storage capacity for paperwork and stationery while maintaining a compact footprint suitable for everyday domestic use.

FAQs

Produced between 1901 and 1910, Edwardian writing desks adapted 18th-century Neoclassical and Sheraton designs, characterised by lighter proportions, fine wood veneers, subtle string inlay, and functional drawer configurations.

Edwardian desks were commonly constructed from solid mahogany or satinwood veneers, featuring brass hardware, dovetail-jointed drawers, and leather inset writing skivers on the top surface.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass handles or knobs, delicate line inlay along drawer borders, period-correct brass castors, and natural surface patination consistent with early 20th-century age.

Position the desk against a neutral backdrop, pairing it with a streamlined contemporary task chair, modern brass table lamp, and understated accessories to complement the warm timber tones.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a soft lint-free cloth and apply clear beeswax polish occasionally, while keeping the leather inset clean with a specialised leather conditioner to prevent drying.
