Nineteenth-century French bronzes frequently incorporated neoclassical and allegorical themes, reflecting the rigorous academic training of European foundries during that period.

These pieces were typically produced using the lost-wax casting method or sand casting, utilising high-grade copper and tin alloy compositions finished with hand-applied patinas.

Authenticity is evaluated through the quality of the chasing work, the depth and natural aging of the patina, foundry marks, and the weight and density of the metal casting.

Placing the sculpture on a simple mantelpiece or console table allows the complex metallic tones and classical silhouette to serve as a sophisticated focal point.

Bronze should be kept away from direct moisture and humidity, dusted gently with a soft microfibre cloth, and occasionally treated with microcrystalline wax to protect the patination.
