This 18th century Dutch delft plate consists of cream-coloured earthenware finished in tin glaze, painted by hand with deep blue floral and foliate motifs. A large stylized floral bouquet springs from a central vase motif, surrounded by a border of repeated blue and dark violet floral patterns around the rim. The circular decorative plate shows signs of age through a visible crack across the body, scattered chips along the edges, and minor surface wear commensurate with its period. A fitted brass hanger secures the upper edge for display. At 23.5 cm high, 23.5 cm wide, and 3.2 cm deep, it possesses compact proportions suitable for display on a sideboard top within an English country house interior. The earthenware plate rests on a dark wooden stand, placed against a panelled blue wall during presentation.

Delftware refers to tin-glazed earthenware decorated with hand-painted cobalt blue designs, originally developed in Delft, Netherlands, and widely produced across Western Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries.

These plates were crafted from earthenware clay, coated in an opaque white tin-glaze ground, decorated by hand using cobalt oxide pigments, and fired in kilns at high temperatures.

Genuine 18th century pieces typically exhibit soft earthenware bodies with small rim chips or glaze losses, hand-painted brushwork with minor variations, and kiln stilt marks on the underside.

Displaying the plate on a dedicated stand upon a sideboard, positioning it within a glazed cabinet, or wall-mounting it as part of a ceramic grouping adds classical texture to modern spaces.

Dust gently using a clean, dry, soft-bristled brush or microfiber cloth, avoiding liquid immersion or chemical cleaners that could penetrate unglazed edges or micro-fissures.
