Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Burr walnut furniture is characterised by the swirling, highly figured grain patterns derived from the burl growths of the walnut tree, frequently utilised during periods such as the Queen Anne and Georgian eras to impart visual texture and luxury.

These pieces typically feature solid oak or pine carcass frames and drawer linings, overlaid with decorative veneers like burr walnut. Traditional construction methods include hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers and pegged mortise and tenon joints.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction markers such as hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage patterns, hand-beveled drawer edges, original brass hardware with correct casting techniques, and natural wear patterns consistent with age.

An antique wooden chest can serve as a grounding anchor in a modern room, styled simply with minimal contemporary ceramics, a large minimalist mirror, or balanced lamp lighting to contrast rich wood tones against clean architectural lines.

Preservation requires maintaining stable room humidity and temperature away from direct sunlight and heat sources, avoiding silicone-based polishes, and periodically feeding the timber with traditional beeswax to maintain the finish.
