FAQs

Victorian dressing tables span the reign of Queen Victoria, moving from heavy, ornate mahogany designs to more figured veneers like burr walnut during the later Victorian period, often featuring elaborate mirror supports and pedestal configurations.

Cabinet makers typically used solid secondary timbers like pine or mahogany for internal structures, overlaid with highly figured decorative veneers such as burr walnut, alongside brass handles and original bevelled glass mirror plates.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetails on the drawer joints, secondary timbers consistent with the 19th century, hand-turned wooden knobs, and traditional wax finishes with natural ageing.

Pair the rich wood tones with contemporary minimalist seating, modern lighting, and sleek accessories to create a striking contrast that highlights the intricate grain patterns of the antique veneer.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the veneer from drying out, and treat it periodically with traditional beeswax to nourish the wood grain.
