First Period Worcester refers to porcelain produced at the Worcester factory in England between 1751 and 1783, known for its experimental paste bodies, fine craftsmanship, and adoption of sophisticated underglaze blue printing and enamelling techniques influenced by Chinese export porcelain.

Early Worcester pieces typically utilised a soapstone-infused paste or soft-paste porcelain formula, which was shaped by hand or moulded, then hand-painted or transfer-printed with vibrant enamels and rich gilding before being fired in coal-burning kilns.

Authenticity is determined by examining specific factory marks such as the blue crescent, square fret, or script W or Wigornia marks, alongside characteristic underglaze pooling, pitting in the glaze, and the specific depth of the cobalt blue scale ground.

Antique cabinet plates are typically displayed on specialized wall mounts, plate stands on sideboards, or within glass-fronted cabinets to add historical texture and contrasting colour to contemporary living spaces.

Antique porcelain should be kept away from direct sunlight to prevent enamel fading, washed exclusively by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent when necessary, and never placed in a dishwasher or microwave.
