Description

A smart and extremely well made pair of antique Georgian style burr walnut chests of drawers. They were made in England, they date from around the 1930’s.

The quality is fantastic and they are a very useful size. They are fairly tall and slim, meaning they take up very little room and offer plenty of storage space. The walnut has stunning grain patterns with a gorgeous colour tone and patina, the drawers have brass handles and the chests stand on cabriole legs with shell carving at the knees.

We have had them stripped and re-polished, the condition is excellent for their age.

Width – 22 inches , 56 cm

The Georgian period, spanning the reigns of the first four Georges, is characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the evolution from heavy walnut to refined mahogany and burr walnut veneers.

Master craftsmen typically utilised native and exotic timbers such as walnut, oak for drawer linings, and pine for secondary framing, often embellished with highly figured burr walnut veneers.

Authentication relies on examining dovetail joints for hand-cut irregularity, inspecting secondary timbers for age-related oxidisation, and verifying the construction methods of the drawer linings and backboards.

Pairing rich wood tones with neutral walls, contemporary textiles, and minimalist lighting allows the intricate grain patterns of the burr walnut to stand out as a focal point.

Maintain a stable room temperature away from direct sunlight and radiators, and nourish the timber periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
