Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Wemyss Ware is a renowned type of Scottish art pottery that originated in the late 19th century, specifically established at the Fife Pottery in Kirkcaldy around 1882 by Robert Heron, known for its distinctive hand-painted naturalistic designs.

Wemyss pieces were typically crafted from a white earthenware body, which was then hand-painted under the glaze using vibrant mineral colours before being fired to achieve a glossy, tactile finish.

Authentic pieces often feature impressed factory marks, retailer stamps such as Thomas Goode & Co., and handwritten painter signatures, alongside characteristic hand-painted subjects like fruits, flowers, and animals with a whimsical artistic style.

Antique plates can be mounted on walls as part of a curated gallery display, placed on plate stands on sideboards, or incorporated into tablescapes to add historical character and a splash of hand-crafted colour to modern rooms.

Antique earthenware should be kept out of direct sunlight to prevent pigment fading, cleaned only with a soft, dry cloth, and hand-washed gently in lukewarm water with mild soap if cleaning is strictly necessary, avoiding dishwashers entirely.
