FAQs

Victorian iron and brass beds emerged during the 19th century, combining durable cast iron frames with decorative brass fittings, finials, and scrollwork, reflecting the industrial manufacturing advancements of the era.

These beds typically utilised a combination of structural cast iron for the main frame, malleable iron for scrolls, and polished brass for finials, mounts, and decorative accents.

Authentic pieces often feature makers plaques, heavy cast iron construction with hand-poured joints, authentic patina on the brass elements, and dimensions that may require custom-sized mattresses rather than modern standard sizes.

Pairing a vintage metal bed frame with contemporary minimalist bedding, neutral linens, and clean-line side tables creates a balanced focal point that bridges historical charm with modern aesthetics.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners, and using specialist non-abrasive brass polish sparingly only on unlacquered metal components to preserve the natural oxidisation.
