We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

Fire dogs, also known as chenets or firedogs, date back to medieval times when they were used to elevate logs in an open hearth to improve airflow and combustion.

Nineteenth-century fire dogs were typically cast in brass, bronze, or iron, often featuring hand-finished detailing, turned columns, and robust support bars designed to withstand intense heat.

Authentic period pieces generally exhibit heavy construction, genuine casting flaws, natural patination from age and heat exposure, and traditional joint assembly methods rather than modern fixings.

These pieces can be placed within an open hearth as a focal point or used as sculptural decorative objects flanking a fireplace in both traditional and contemporary spaces.

Clean surfaces gently with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip the historic patination, and store in a dry environment to prevent corrosion.
